Job Description

The Katsina State Hospitals Services Management Board was first established by Kaduna State Government via edict No. 7 of 1978. The same edict was modified and adapted under CAP 63 of the laws of Katsina State of Nigeria. In 1993, the Board was merged with the State Ministry of Health through an Executive order. However, it was reactivated on 30th March, 1998 operate autonomously, with a Governing Board under the supervision of the Ministry of Health. The Board has under control all staff at the Headquarters, State Medical store, Government House Clinic, Psychiatric Hospital as well as all those working at the 18 General Hospital in the Katsina, Daura, Funtua, Malumdfashi, Mani, Kankia, Dutsinma, Batsari, Baure, Babbaruga, Rimi, Ingawa, Musawa, Kankara and Danmusa.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Dental Therapist

Location: Katsina

Job Description

  • The Dental Therapist is responsible for delivering preventive and basic curative oral health services within KTHSMB healthcare facilities.
  • The role involves conducting oral examinations, performing scaling and polishing, applying preventive treatments, and assisting in simple restorative procedures under supervision.
  • The officer will also promote oral health education, maintain dental records, and ensure adherence to infection prevention and control standards in line with public health guidelines.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct basic oral examinations and patient assessments
  • Perform scaling and polishing of teeth
  • Provide preventive treatments including fluoride application and fissure sealants
  • Assist in simple restorative dental procedures under supervision
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene and preventive care practices
  • Maintain accurate dental records and patient documentation
  • Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols
  • Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment
  • Support dentists and other dental professionals during procedures
  • Participate in community oral health outreach programs

 Requirements & Qualifications

  • Diploma in Dental Therapy or Oral Health
  • Valid professional registration/license
  • Basic clinical and preventive dental skills
  • Good communication and patient care skills
  • Relevant experience.
